About Me as a Writer

My writerly identity is continually changing and developing. Before pursuing my Writing Minor, I didn’t consider myself to be a writer at all, but thought of myself more as someone who enjoyed collecting and commemorating events, memories, and feelings. I thought of my writerly identity as secondary to my other identities as a traveller, daughter, collector of experiences, and foodie. I have sought out a space to write within the University of Denver's Writing Minor to expand on the pieces of my life that represent the whole. Through personal reflection, however, I’ve learned about the mutualistic relationship that my writing has with my other identities. Writing has grown to encompass all of my identities, values, and motivations, and is a way for me to more thoughtfully express myself. Self-expression leads me to write on behalf of different communities that I am a part of. Creating shared meaning is one of my priorities as a writer, because I believe we are more similar than we are different; narratives and creative non-fiction allow these commonalities to shine through.
